Culture Cares Invites Web Site Submissions
The New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources has launched Culture Cares, a program that uses a centralized web site to promote community service projects undertaken by cultural organizations across the state. New Hampshire’s libraries, museums, historical societies, arts groups, theaters, movie houses and other cultural organizations have a long tradition of creating programming that contributes to and raises awareness of community groups in need. Organizing drives for food, toys, books, and art supplies, reading to patients, raising funds for first responders, and offering reduced tickets to student groups are all examples of the kinds of programming sponsored by New Hampshire’s many cultural organizations each year.

The Culture Cares web site serves as a centralized place for organizations to promote their community service projects, raise awareness of groups in need and inspire others to give back, both by participating in existing projects and by creating new ones.

Cultural organizations from across New Hampshire are invited to submit their community service project information to the Department of Cultural Resources for posting on the Culture Cares web site. They may also use the Culture Cares logo to help identify their project with the statewide program.  For more information, visit www.nh.gov/nhculture and click on “Culture Cares.”

2010 Fellow Jonathan Santore Presenting his Work
The New Hampshire Master Chorale’s fall concert series will premiere original music by 2010 N.H. Artist Fellow Jonathan Santore of Plymouth. Santore’s musical compositions are based on poetry about the state by poet Liz Ahl, his fellow faculty member at Plymouth State University. The concerts are scheduled for Friday, November 20, at 8 p.m. at South Congregational Church in Concord, Saturday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. at Norwich (Vt.) Congregational Church, and Sunday, November 22, at 4 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church. The Plymouth performance features a pre-concert talk, at 3:30 p.m., with Santore and Ahl. Artist’s Talk with Fellow Denise Dumas
2010 N.H. Artist Fellow Denise Dumas of Wilton will give an artist’s talk tomorrow, November 14, at 119 Gallery, Lowell, Mass. The talk coincides with the final day of her exhibit, a video, sculpture, and sound installation called Make a Wish. For more information, visit http://www.119gallery.org/.

N.H. Artist Laureate James Aponovich
James Aponovich of Hancock, New Hampshire’s current artist laureate, has been accepted to the American Academy in Rome’s Visiting Artist program. In the spring he will be at the American Academy’s campus, using a scholarly approach to refine his study of 15th- and 16th-century Italian painting from the Rome, Umbria, and Tuscany regions.

Lynn Szymanski of Rollinsford
Furniture sculptor Lynn Szymanski of Rollinsford has been awarded the 2009 Artist Advancement Grant by the Piscataqua Region of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. She is the eighth winner of the $30,000 award. This year’s finalists were mixed media artist Lauren Gillette of York, Maine, photographer Bear Kirkpatrick of Portsmouth, and painter Rose Umerlik of Portsmouth.

Mark Wildermann of Hill
Mark Wildermann of Hill has won an award for best Drama/Thriller/Horror film in the Endas International Screenplay Competition 2009. The prize is for his historical drama, “Final Romance for Margaret Fuller.” The awards ceremony is being held today in Genoa, Italy.

Kate Gleason of Keene
Kate Gleason of Keene is doing a reading tour for her new collection of poems, Measuring the Dark, which was the winner of the Zone 3 Press First Book Award judged by Phillis Levin.
